The Adhémar de Monteil family … in Montélimar

Part of the Kingdom of Royaume Bourgogne-Provence, the area around Montélimar came under the Germanic Holy Roman Empire in 1032. This period saw the rise to the power of the Adhémar de Monteil Family who built a palace and gave the town its name.

During the Wars of Religion, Montélimar was besieged on several occasions. Lesdiguières built the citadel that dominates the town.

Thanks to its privileged situation in the Rhone
Valley, Montelimar is the ideal starting point for
excursions in Drome Provencale, the Ardèche
Gorges or the Vercors Plateau.

A new age began with the growing use of transport, thanks to the A7 Motorway (1968), the Canal of the Rhone and the High-speed-Railway (TGV), and by the increasing use of hydro-electric and nuclear power.
