 |
| | Part of the Kingdom of Royaume Bourgogne-Provence, the area around Montélimar came under the Germanic Holy Roman Empire in 1032. This period saw the rise to the power of the Adhémar de Monteil Family who built a palace and gave the town its name. | |
During the Wars of Religion, Montélimar was besieged on several occasions. Lesdiguières built the citadel that dominates the town. | | Thanks to its privileged situation in the Rhone Valley, Montelimar is the ideal starting point for excursions in Drome Provencale, the Ardèche Gorges or the Vercors Plateau. | | A new age began with the growing use of transport, thanks to the A7 Motorway (1968), the Canal of the Rhone and the High-speed-Railway (TGV), and by the increasing use of hydro-electric and nuclear power. | | A new age began with the growing use of transport, thanks to the A7 Motorway (1968), the Canal of the Rhone and the High-speed-Railway (TGV), and by the increasing use of hydro-electric and nuclear power.
